DARTMOUTH CLASS OF 1996

"If you hate small talk and pretending you belong among the privileged class, why in the world are you always volunteering to do graphic design for your alumni class?"
Dartmouth College is with all intents and purposes a member of my family. I don't always agree with it, it definitely left me with some emotional scars, and yet I will always be thankful for the experiences it provided me, the people it brought into my life, and the role it played in shaping who I am. If it weren't for Dartmouth and it's amazing yearbook program, I would not be the creative I am today.

Under the same lens, the Class of 1996 are my cousins. We survived the chaos of new found independence, hormones, and the Greek system. We didn't necessarily do it all together and there were definitely some fights, but we survived and now we have the stories to share for it.

CAHNERS BUSINESS PUBLISHING
TRADESHOW WEEK/VARIETY/DAILY VARIETY
Armed only with the experience and skills I gained while on the staff of my college yearbook, Aegis (which won an award in 1994 when I was Assistant Editor in Chief), I got my first job in publishing when I moved out to Los Angeles following graduation.

I started at a small B2B publication as an assistant editor of the annual supplements. My experience with QuarkXpress soon allowed me to take over the layout and design of the weekly publication when the opportunity arose.

After a short time working as a graphic artist in editorial, I moved to the marketing department of a larger sister publication. There, I designed in house promotional material and other marketing collateral.
When I returned to the East Coast, I was hired as a Graphic Designer at a national non-profit association for the advertising industry. I managed a small in-house print shop and was responsible for all the print production for the organization. At my first review, I was promoted to Creative Director.

While it was a small organization, its members included the biggest and best advertising creatives in the country. My time there allowed me to collaborate with some of them for our annual programs and campaigns. All the benefits of a DDB or Leo Burnett internship without the NYC cost of living.
