Exhibit Review: Chinatown: Place? or People?

Project type

Exhibit Review

Date

2004

Location

Washington, D.C.

A critical review examining how a Chinatown exhibition handled — or failed to handle — the tension between place as historical artifact and community as living subject. The visitor book functions as data: what people wrote in response to the exhibition is itself evidence of what the exhibition communicated versus what it intended to. Written as a graduate seminar paper at GWU, 2003–2004.
